Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Oborevwori has congratulated the immediate past State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu on his appointment as a member of National Executive Committee of the union saying his appointment is a well deserved one.
Comrade Ikeogwu’s appointment as National Ex-Officio of the Union was contained in a letter signed by the National Secretary, Comrade Shuaibu Usman Leman, on Friday, October 20.
In a statement by Governor Oborevwori’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in Asaba, the state capital, the Governor said Ikeogwu deserved the appointment going by his outstanding contributions to Journalism profession in the state in particular and Nigeria at large.
The Governor commended the NUJ President, Comrade Chris Isiguzo for finding Ikeogwu, an illustrious son of Delta, worthy of the appointment.
His words:”On behalf of the Government and people of Delta State, I congratulate the immediate past Chairman of the State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, on his meritorious appointment as National Ex-officio of the Union”
According to him, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu as a professional journalist with many years of experience, has made his mark in the journalism practice in the state and beyond saying that, as a- two- term Chairman of the State Council, he contributed greatly towards the fortunes of journalists in the state through many of his accomplishments while in the office.
While expressing gratitude for the National President, Comrade Chris Isiguzo for finding Comarde Ikeogwu worthy of appointment, he charged him (Comarade Ikeogwu) to see his appointment as a call to National Service that requires him to bring to bear his wealth of experience in his new office just as he continues to be committed ambassador of the state.
