The University of Delta, Agbor, is poised to strengthen its digital infrastructure through a strategic partnership with telecommunications giant Globacom, in a move aimed at accelerating automation and expanding access to seamless connectivity across its campuses. The proposed collaboration came into focus during a courtesy visit by a delegation from Globacom to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke, at her office. The team was led by Mr. Spatus Ugiomon, Divisional Zonal Head, Benin Division.
Speaking during the visit, Mr. Ugiomon said, the engagement was designed to formally introduce the University Management to Globacom’s suite of digital products tailored to enhance institutional efficiency. He noted that the company was seeking partnership with UNIDEL in the areas of digitalisation and automation, with solutions structured to add measurable value to the University’s existing digital ecosystem.
According to him, central to the proposal is the Glo Share package — a platform that enables the provision of free data to a defined group of users, including staff and students adding that, under the architecture, registered users configured within the institution’s network would enjoy seamless access to resources hosted on the university’s website.
Mr. Ugiomon said, in addition, the Glo User Group Package would allow members to operate with either new or existing Glo lines, enabling free calls within the closed user group and ensuring uninterrupted communication across the university community. According to him, beyond connectivity, the partnership is expected to deliver critical infrastructure, including the installation of telecom masts at the Owa-Alero and Owa-Oyibu campuses just as he said, the development is projected to significantly improve GSM coverage and guarantee seamless functionality of the Glo Share platform.
Mr. Ugiomon said, if the negotiation is finalized, the collaboration is anticipated to deepen UNIDEL’s digital footprint as lecturers would be able to upload results and academic materials with greater ease through the Institution’s Learning Management System, while students would gain improved access to digital learning tools, email services, online fee payments, continuous assessment uploads, examination scores and other web-based academic resources.
Welcoming the delegation on behalf of Management, staff and students, Prof. Chiemeke expressed appreciation to Globacom for identifying UNIDEL as a strategic partner. She described the initiative as a milestone that would further position the University as a pace-setter in digital innovation, potentially setting a benchmark for other institutions within Delta State and beyond.
In his remarks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Patrick Ijeh, described the proposed packages as timely and transformative initiatives which will set the pace for technology-driven leadership and commitment to institutional advancement across the eight universities currently in operating Delta State. With negotiations at an advanced stage, the UNIDEL–Globacom partnership signals a decisive step toward building a smarter, more connected academic environment. Also include in Globacom’s delegation are: Mr. Anderson Laackmann, Divisional Vertical Manager, Oil and Gas, and Miss Esosa Aigbedion, Divisional Vertical Manager, Public Sector.
