In the bid to put smiles on the faces of Okuama Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs), a non-governmental organization known as POOF foundation has empowered the people with relief materials who, at present, camped at Ewu-Urhobo in Ughelli South Local Government Delta State.
Among the items the organization donated to them are: packs of rice, cartons of noodles, pampers, sanitary pads, toiletries, detergents, bathing soaps, 25 litres of groundnut oil, and educational materials for the children in the camp and cash donations of ten nursing mothers that gave birth to babies at the camp. The organization also presented educational materials like notebooks, biro and erasers, among others..
Presenting the materials to them, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of POOF foundation, Amb. Prince Oghenerukevwe Okifo, said they were there with food items and some other things to support the people as a result of what happened in the community.
According to him, the primary aims of POOF foundation is to carry out humanitarian services wherever there is a need hence they have come to offer these items and money to alleviate the suffering of the people. He said, it is painful that the people are homeless and the children are out of school because of the incident.
He said since most of the people are females ,the organization deemed it necessary to assist them with sanitary pads and pampers to the nursing mothers. According to him, they are much aware that since the incident happened, the that children no longer go to school hence the they have presented the education materials, adding, that would enable the students learn until they(students) go back to school when they return to their various homes.
According to him, he was happy to see joy written on the faces of the children as they saw the notebooks and other educational materials to support them, an indication, they already missing school. He said, they won’t be happy if the children lose hope on their education due to what happened and therefore appealed to other foundations to emulate their gestures by supporting the IDPs in this way.
On his part, the Secretary to the foundation, Hon. Desmond Okpako said the organization has come to condole with the people of Okuama in Ewu kingdom in line with foundation’s motto:” Uplifting Life For A Better Tomorrow“. He therefore prayed that such occurrence should not happen again. The climax of the ceremony was when the Camp Assistant Commandant, Comrade Sunywhite Orode received the items donated by the organization amid prayers.
