Comrade Austine Odedede said insecurity in Niger Delta is the bane of food security in Nigeria especially Delta region. Comrade Odedede who is a frontline youth leader in Delta State gave this assertion recently in a chat with journalists on the remote causes of food scarcity in the nation at Ughelli, the administrative headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government, Delta State.
According to him, the prevailing insecurity in Niger Delta region is occasioned by the influx of Fulani herdsmen who prevent farmers from engaging in farming activities which has gone a long way to cause food shortage in the country as farmers are denied access to their farmland as a result of the activities of the Herders who rape women and girls adding that, in cases, kill their husbands. His words: ‘Farmers in the region are denied access to their farmland because of the activities of the herders who rape women, and girls and kill their husbands.
Comrade Odedede appealed to the state and federal governments and other relevant authorities to come to the aid of the farmers in the region by removing the Herdsmen from the farmers’ farmlands to enable them engage fully in farming activities. He commended Delta State Police Command headed by Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi and her sisters security agencies in the state in ensuring that there is peace in the region.
He specifically commended the Delta State Commandant of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Delta State chapter,Comrade Monday Ohwesiri for the roles he played in the recovery of the corpses of the fallen gallant policemen who were arm bushed by suspected herdsmen in Agadama/Ughweru bush in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State.
