A socio-political pressure group under the auspices of Midwestern have called on the region to vote en-masse to Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Delta State Governor and Vice Presidential Candidate on the platform of People’s Democratic Party in the forthcoming elections.
The group made this known through the Chairman of the group Mr. Iwemdi Nwahan in media chat with newsmen on Wednesday in Warri, Delta State.
Mr Nwaham who was flanked by his Vice Chairman, Prof. David Ejenobo and Mr Fidelis Chimokwu (Secretary) said that the old Midwestern region which comprised Edo and Delta States had suffered marginalization in the nation’s political space since its creation in 1963 saying, this suffering would be over if they vote en-masse in this direction.
According to him, the choice of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as Vice Presidential candidate of the PDP is one of the greatest things in the region that we are all happy about and urged the people to support him.
The group’s Chairman also said that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had paid his dues in the political trajectory of Nigeria adding, he had garnered a National Honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger( CON) and other numerous awards across the six geo-political zones in the country because of his contributions to the growth and development of Delta State in particular and Nigeria in general.
According to him: “Okowa is from the old Midwestern region, a region that has not tasted elective political office at the Presidential level since its creation in 1963. That means, in the 60 years of its existence, nobody from the old Midwestern region has been elected either as President or Vice President of Nigeria”.
Speaking further, this is marginalization and therefore pleads with the Nigerians as a nation, particularly sons and daughters in the other regions to allow this region to taste of this office for the first time in the history of Nigeria adding a vote for the PDP should be seen as a vote for Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and the people of the old Midwestern region.
He said:” We call on all our brothers and sisters of the old Midwestern region to rise up with one voice to vote for PDP, the only party that has given us the once-in-life time opportunity”.
Nwaham called on the political class in the country to take careful note of the wide acceptance of the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar in all his campaigns across the length and breadth of the country.
He said:”There is no doubt that Nigerians are fed up with the eight years disasters of the APC Government, a vote for Atiku is a vote for Okowa”.
The Chairman reminded the region that Delta State had been a PDP ruling state since 1999 and appealed to the people to vote for all the Party’s candidates in the forthcoming general elections.
He said:”The three Governors who had ruled during these periods have not disappointed us. Let us vote PDP candidates in all the elections both at the state and the national levels”.
Nwaham said, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the PDP Governorship candidate in Delta State is a Godsend to continue from where Senator Ifeanyi Okowa would stop on May 29, 2023 adding, he has the capacity and capability to move the state forward.
