Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has promised that the government would continue to care for the welfare of Nigeria’s veterans, serving officers and families of military personnel who lose their life while serving the nation. Governor Oborevwori made this known at the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day thanksgiving service at St. Philip Anglican Church, Asaba, the state capital on Sunday.
According to Governor Oborevwori, the government would continue to partner with relevant authorities to see that those who have given so much for collective peace for the country are treated with dignity, compassion, and care. He said:”As a government, we remain committed to the welfare of our veterans, serving officers, and the families of our fallen heroes”. Governor Oborevwori commended the professionalism, resilience and patriotism of all security personnel who serve in Delta as their sacrifices have contributed immensely to the relative peace and stability being enjoyed in the state at present.

While appreciating Almighty God for life, peace and the privilege which made it possible to gather on this solemn occasion, the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Thanksgiving Service, he said, the country would continue to remember the families of those fallen military personnel left behind as their sacrifices and pain remain part of the nation’s story. His words: “To those family members of the fallen heroes, please note that your loved ones did not die in vain”.
According Governor Oborevwori who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme at the occasion, said, as citizens of the country, all must promote unity, obey the rule of law, reject violence, support security agencies with useful information and pray on their behalf.
Governor Oborevwori said, with the thanksgiving, he prayed that the souls of the departed heroes continue to rest in perfect peace, asked God Almighty to grant strength, protection and wisdom to all those currently serving just as he prayed that God should continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria in general and Delta State in particular with enduring peace. His words: “Let us also pray for our leaders at all levels, that God will guide us to lead with wisdom, justice, compassion and to always prioritize the welfare of our people”.

The Governor therefore expressed gratitude to the church, the clergy, security agencies, traditional rulers, veterans and all Deltans for being part of the remembrance and thanksgiving service. Earlier in his address, Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Asaba, Rt. Rev.Kingsley Obuh expressed gratitude to God and the state for the privilege to gather annually to reflect on the sacrifice the Army Forces have made in this regard. Rt. Rev.Obuh who was represented by Ven. Christian Okonkwor said: “No matter your position, no matter what you do, make sacrifice for your family, your community and for the good of our nation.”

Prayers were offered for the Governor, government and the people of Delta State, the Legislature, the Judiciary, the Armed Forces and the families of fallen heroes. Present at the occasion included, the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor who was represented by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice Tessy Diai who was represented by Justice Bricki Okolosi, President, Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Catherine Ojugbana-Orishedere, Heads of Military and Para-Military formations in the state, Chairman of Nigerian Legion in the state, Captain Robert Akpojohuro (Rtd) and members of Nigerian Legion, among others.
The climax of the service was Governor Oborevwori leading the Armed Forces and the congregation in thanksgiving for God’s grace and mercies.
