The Senator representing Bayelsa West, and Chancellor, Hensard University, Senator Seriake Dickson said education is the only reliable tool in the positive transformation of humanity saying that, building of roads, bridges and other infrastructure would be efforts in futility without the development of the human mind. Senator Dickson stated this at the maiden matriculation ceremony which took place University Arena, at Toru- Orua, Bayelsa State.
According to him, the focus of Hensard University is the total development of the humanity: character and learning .The University Chancellor admonished the matriculants and inductees to be focused and do their utmost, knowing the high standards the university has set. He urged the Vice Chancellor and his team to continue to work together to translate the goals and vision of the University, combining academic excellence, skills development and industry mentorship to produce leaders, and graduate entrepreneurs. Senator Dickson said the University is prepared to start its professional courses in Law, Medicine, Engineering, Nursing, and Pharmacy among others in the next academic session.
In a remark, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Acting Governor of Bayelsa State, congratulated the matriculants and inductees of the University admonishing them to take their studies seriously as education is the only tool to conquer the world.Senator Ewhrudjakpo who was represented by Mr. Gentle Emelah, Commissioner of education, lauded Senator Dickson’s long term vision in education and his concept of service to humanity that has materialized in the founding of Hensard University. He expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and his management team for good done so far, and reiterated the State Government’s commitment in partnering the University.
On his part, the Vice Chancellor of Hensard University, Professor Dileep Kumar, expressed gratitude to Senator Dickson for bringing to reality his dream just as he thanked his management team for the support in translating the vision of the University’s founder. Professor Kumar charged the students to take their academics seriously adding that, education is the springboard to self development and accomplishment of one’s dreams. The University Don thanked all who were able to take time out of their busy schedules to grace the occasion and prayed God to grant them safe journey to their various destinations.
In separate interviews, some of the matriculants: Master Ediro Ebruwiyor, Miss Tamaraebi Tasibo, and others, expressed their excitement to witness such a historic day. They expressed gratitude to the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor and his management team for providing them with a state of the art learning environment and facility to study that will enable them compete favorably with students anywhere in the globe after graduation.
The event was attended by dignitaries among who are: Mr. Abraham Ingobere, Speaker, Bayelsa State House of Assembly and other members, Traditional Rulers led by King Seiyefa Koroye, Pere of Tarakiri Kingdom, Chairmen of both Sagbama and Ekeremor Local Government Areas, Commissioner, Special duties, Bayelsa West, Political Stakeholders of Baylesa West led by Elder Fyneman Wilson, Dr. O. O Osusu, Mr. Victor Okubonanbo, Executive Secretary, SUBEB, Mr. Jonathan Obuebite, former Commissioner for Education, Bayelsa State among others.
