The Candidate for Delta South Senatorial District on the platform of New Nigeria Peoples Party(NNPP), Commodore Omatseye Nesiama(rtd) has reaffirmed his determination to give the people of Delta South Senatorial Districts quality representation if given the mandate to represent the people in February 25 general elections. Commodore Nesiama(rtd) stated this when relaying his manifesto in questions and answers sessions in the programme organized by Itsekiri Youth Political Forum(IYPF) for the candidates of the political parties in the Senate and Federal House of Representatives which took place at Warri Club in Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State.
Commodore Nesiama (rtd) who was calm in presenting what the people of Delta South stand to gain when he is elected as Senator said, he would run government of accountability as the people would be informed of constituency’s projects whether they are cash- backed or not and if they are, they would be executed and the people would be duly informed how the money is spent through his Campaign Organization’s Website which would translates into Constituency’s Website if he wins as a Senator.
The Commodore of Hope said, for those who are not literate enough to access Website can visit the Constituency’s Offices where there would be Personnel to interface (explain to them) with them. On the provision of portable water for the people of Delta South especially of Itsekiri extractions, he said, he would consult his people before taking decision as he has 8(eight) Local Government Areas in this regards adding, taking decisions unilaterally will not be on good interest of the people.
On how he would revamp the moribund refineries in the area, Nesiama(rtd) said, this is contained in his manifesto. He said, the Petroleum Industry Act is well conceived but not properly done to be able to function effectively saying, that is why he is going to support legislation and re-legislation as , this is one of the reasons he is going there. He said, a lot of money has been spent on the maintenance of the refineries but they easily break down. Speaking further, he said, the way the refineries are situated, if they continue to be maintained, it will not do the country any good as the refineries are old and needed to be replaced . According to him, there are modern systems of refining that would not cost much and that is modular refinery.
He said: “The refineries are old and their maintenance will not take us to the promise land but with 250 million Dollars, we can get modular refinery”. He said, if he becomes a Senator, he will initiate bills to ensure modular refineries are built for the country’s consumptions and exports for the country to earn foreign currency, among others.
Nesiama(rtd) who said his manifesto can be accessed in the Website of the organization said, among others, he would embark on viable projects , there would be stronger economy, human capital development through constituency projects, ensure strict implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act, attract both local and international NGOs , creating job opportunities, sports developments, community projects, revitalization of agriculture and aquaculture, restore the glory of traditional institutions among others. He therefore thanked the Itsekiri Youth Political Forum for organizing the programme just as he promised to work with them as they are veritable tools to reach the people when he becomes the Senator to be acquainted on the needs of the people and encourage other constituencies to organize such a meeting for their people to showcase what they have for the electorate.
On his part, the Peoples Democratic Party’s Candidate for Delta Senatorial District, Hon. Michael Diden a.k.a Ejele said he would better the lots of his people if given the mandate in the Senate. Hon. Diden who spoke in Itsekiri language almost all through in relaying his manifesto on the way to tackle insecurity, said he would do wonders when elected. among others. And then, the candidate on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) for Warri Federal Constituency, Ekpoto Ekpoto Emmanuel a.k.a Tripple “E” said, he has the vision of promoting general prosperity and restore the dignity of the people through legislative representation and engagement just as he said, he would create and sponsor bills, move motion, and contribute meaningfully into the floor of the House to bring good to his people. He said:”I therefore wish to express my desire to represent the great people of Warri Federal Constituency at the Green Chambers of the National Assembly come 2023 to advance the Warri spirit of selflessness, responsibility ,fairness, etc. for over all socio-economic development and the good of the our land”.
On his part, Ambassador Piero Young Omatseye of Labour Party said, he is ready to involve in capacity building and within two years, the people will see what he can do to better their lives. He said, he would give practical solutions to the challenges of his constituency by delving into agriculture and others to better the lives of the people when elected.
Earlier in his welcome address, the National President of Itsekiri Youth Political Forum (IYPF), Comrade Asawa Sunday Omatsola said it is good that another election time has come again and many political parties are campaigning to be voted for on Election Day. He said, the body deemed it fit to make the various candidates of different political parties vying for different positions at the state and federal levels of government saying, it is commendable for them to contest to represent the people.
He said, the aims and objectives of the forum include: sensitizing of the youth politically –educate and encourage them to involve in politics as they did in voter’s registration recently; to look for the best candidate to represent the people; to hold their political leaders accountable; to encourage Itsekiri youths to contest political position; to be part of decision making body at their at units to presidency post -elections, to seek equity with all candidates with the sole purpose to tell the Itsekiri nation what they intend to do for the kingdom if elected.
According to him, the crucial contract required of politicians contesting for elective offices by the Itsekiri Youth Political Forum include: human capital development, prudent use of values accruing to Itsekiri nation, transparency regarding scholarship accruable to Itsekiri students, among others. He therefore wished the candidates a success in their various political ambitions.
