The Vice Chancellor, Delta State University, Abraka, Prof. Samuel Oghenovo Asagba has told the newly admitted students of the institution that the institution has zero tolerance for social vices such as violence, cultism, indecent dressing, examination malpractice, yahoo plus and breach of peace as all constitute breach of matriculation oath. Prof. Asaba stated this on Saturday at the matriculation of eight thousand, five hundred and ninety-eight (8,598) students of 2024/2025 academic session.
According to him, apart these vices that are against the rules and regulations of the institution; they are capable of jeopardizing the successful completion of their studies and attainment of their life’s dreams. He said, peace is paramount to meaningful academic pursuit hence the institution has continued to wave war and will continue to wage a relentless war against nefarious activities on campus. He said any student found to be a member of secret cults would be shown the way out of the University.

The Vice Chancellor of the Ivory Tower said the admitted students are the privileged few who gained admission out of the whole lot of ten thousand who applied for admission in the university this academic session. His words:” As students, you should comport yourself very well, observe the rules and regulations of this University and refrain from indiscipline and refrain from activities which are inimical to the growth of intellectualism, and refrain from indiscipline and refrain from lawlessness particularly when such involve violence, cultism.”

While congratulating the students for successful admission, Prof. Asagba reminded them that as they settle down for academic activities, they are major stakeholders in the institution and as such it is necessary for them to maintain the school’s sanctity and its esteemed image and remain focused for academic work at all times in order for them to achieve a fruitful academic career.
Prof, Asagba said Delta State University is one of the fourth generation Universities in Nigeria that was established in 1992 by His Excellency, Late Olorogun Felix Ibru, the Pioneer Executive Governor of the state adding, the school has grown from its modest beginning to highly rated citadel of learning and it has continued to grow in the pursuit of its primary objectives as this has resulted in harmonious relationships.

According to him, the result of the growth is the turning out of responsible graduates who have continued to contribute positively not only to Nigerian society but the world at large.
Prof. Asagba said, Delta State University has distinguished itself as one of the centres of academic excellence and has become an attraction for candidates seeking admissions into tertiary institutions adding that, it was due to the track records of maintaining smooth and uninterrupted academic calendar over the years. He said at present, the institution has fourteen (14) faculties, eighty-eight (88), Departments with ninety-two(92) academic programmes, in addition to one Institute of education and a business school, a school which is situated in Asaba, the state capital.
According to him, larger society has continued to look up to the university for high standards of personal and moral integrity as over the years, the institution, through its cardinal objectives, continued to improve on capacity building together with intellectual and man power development in diverse fields of endeavours.

The Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude to the Executive Governor of Delta State and visitor to the Delta State University, Abraka, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and Delta State Government for the giant strides taken in the overall development of the University. According to him, on their part, the school Management would strive for academic excellence.
His words:”I wish to use this opportunity to express our profound appreciation to Executive and Visitor to Delta State University, Abraka, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori and Government of Delta State for giant strides taken in the overall development of the University. On our part, we will remain focused in our pursuit of academic excellence. We will also pursue the prudent management of the meagre resources of the University for its overall development”. The highlight of the ceremony was the administration of matriculation oath of the students.
