Heavy duty petroleum tanker, today, Wednesday crashed on top of the Udu Bridge in Udu Local Government Area of the state, causing the free flow of traffic along that axis. It was gathered the tanker was coming from Warri in Warri South Local Government Area and its attempt to climb the bridge, it gave way crashing on top of the bridge. Bailout magazine learnt that the driver of the vehicle narrowly escaped death as the truck nearly fell in the river. According to investigation, it was not clear if it was carrying petroleum products before it fell on the bridge.
Speaking to Bailout Magazine, a cross section of the passersby called on the road safety and other relevant authority to remove this truck from the bridge to give way for free flow of traffic. One of the tricycle riders who identified himself as Comrade Onoriode Lucky said, the vehicle has crashed on the bridge for the past two hours and no efforts have been made to remove it by the relevant authority which he said, has constituted and will constitute dangers to the people in area as night approached.
He said:” I don’t know what they are waiting for before they would remove the petroleum tanker from the road, it has been there for the past two hours”.
Due to this challenge, tricycle rides can not ply the bridge as commuters going to Udu Road have to disembark , walk across the bridge before boarding another tricycle to Udu Road and vice versa. At the time of filing in this report, there were presence of road safety officials and men of Nigeria Police Force on both sides of the bridge to probably regulate the pedestrians on the bridge.
