The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) Delta State chapter has appealed to Deltans to embrace peace in the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections fixed for 18th March, this year.
In a press statement signed by the Chairman of CDHR Delta State chapter, Comrade Jonathan Giama and made available to newsmen said Deltans should avoid anything capable of triggering off violence on the day of the election. According to the press statement, the act of thugery, ballot box snatching, intimidations and depriving citizens from casting their votes is an infringement in the fundamental rights of the citizens.
According to the statement:” We sincerely appeal to Deltans and residents in Delta to embrace peace for the upcoming Governorship and House of Assembly elections. Among other things, we should avoid ballot boxes snatching, intimidation and any other act capable of triggering off violence come Saturday the 18th of March, 2023”
According to the statement, all registered voters with their Permanent Voters’ Card (PVCs) should come out to vote for their choice candidates on the day of the election.
The statement added, the body appreciates all candidates in the race for the level of maturity they displayed during the campaigns and urged all and sundry to tow the path of peace that they have upheld for the period the campaigns lasted as neither any life was lost nor blood shed during the campaign just it said of truth, nobody’s blood worth shedding due to elective positions.

Part of the statement read: “We also encourage all that are duly registered and having their PVC to come out to cast their votes to the candidates of their choice and shun intimidating anybody during the polls.
We, the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights(CDHR) appreciate all contestants for the level of maturity displayed during the campaigns . Let us continue to uphold the road to peace as it was during the period of the campaigns because, no life or blood was shed because, no person’s is blood is worth losing or shedding for any contestants to win”.
The statement further said no body is bigger than the state and its laws no matter what may happen just as it said whoever loses or wins should accept defeat while those won should extend the hands of fellowship to the losers to show good sportsmanship. The body wishes every participant good luck and God’s blessings in the years ahead.
