The outgoing Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has attributed his success as the State Governor for the past eight years to the collaboration of the Deltans as they worked together with him in peace and harmony for which, he is grateful to God Almighty .
Governor Okowa stated this on Sunday at the 2nd Session of the 8th Synod of Ika Diocese of Anglican Communion held at Christ Anglican Church, Umunede . He said, without the enabling peace in the state, his administration couldn’t have delivered on his campaign promises to Deltans.
The outgoing Governor of Delta, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa said:” I thank the people of the state for their support and collaboration which culminated in the successes recorded by my administration in past eight years. Whatever we have achieved, is as a result of collaboration; thinking and working together in peace in order to achieve it, for which, I am very thankful to God and the people of Delta State”.
The Governor who was accompanied to the service by his wife, Dame Edith, and political office holders lauded the Ika Bishop of the Diocese for the massive achievements recorded in the past four years in the Diocese and urged the church to grow men of faith just as it is growing the number of churches. He said the theme for the synod, “Christianity: The Cross and the Crown”, was good and called on the church to continue to hunt for souls for Jesus Christ just as the number of churches grow.
He said:”I am glad that , I am here, back home in this synod being the last Sunday as Governor of Delta State; what a coincidence. I told myself that I must be here today no matter what. I thank God that I am finishing as a Governor in a home church; because any church in Ika land is a home church for me. I thank the people of Ika for all the support that they gave me this last eight years. I also thank the people of Delta State for the support given to me”.
The church thanked the Governor for a successful and remarkable eight years in office and for his contributions to the growth of the Diocese over the years.
Earlier in his sermon, Bishop of Western Izon Diocese, Rt. Revd. Victor Okporu said, suffering, bearing pains and still trusting God is part of the Cross, adding that, whosoever does not bear His Cross cannot be a disciple of Jesus Christ. According to him, the Cross is where the price for mankind’s redemption was paid adding that Satan, the Devil was defeated while the crown is a reward of victory and a mark of Honour and Glory and therefore called on Christians to work towards attaining the crown and glory after labouring for the Cross.
