It was a moment of excitement for the Ugbuwangue Basic Secondary School Management, staff, students and the community as the school organised its 7th Annual interhouse sports competition. The programme which took place in the school’s premises, in Warri South Local Government Area Delta State recently attracted dignitaries from all walks of life especially education industry among whom are

In her address, the Principal of the School, Mrs. M.J. Morrison said, sports are integral part of the school ethos and veritable tools through which students can push their limits, strive for excellence and develop vital life skills such as team work and perseverance.

According to her, the interhouse sport competition is held not only to gather to celebrate the school’s prowess but to foster the spirit of friendship and healthy competition among the students.
She reminded the students that they have been well trained adding that it was time to put the skills they have acquired into use to let the world know what they were capable of doing. She however reminded them that they should be guided by the importance of sportsmanship even when they strove to win.
Her words:”While winning is certainly to strive for, it is equally important to remember that how we play the game is just as important as the outcome. I encourage all participants to show respect to their opponents, to play fairly and to support another regardless of the outcome“.

Mrs Morrison charged the spectators to create the atmosphere of enthusiasm, encourage their fellow classmates to enable them aspire to greater heights.
The education expert used the opportunity appreciate the Chairman of the sports Committee, Dr Mrs Ruppee and all the sports committee members, patrons/ matrons. She also thanked all the mistresses of Houses: Blue, Green, Yellow and Red and the entire staff for working tirelessly to make the event a huge success.
The Principal also thanked the donors namely: the Treyeforju family, Miss Rachael Akomolafe, Engr.Gbesimi Akperi, Chief Dr .Lucky Okparanyote, Engr. Godwin Eyione, Engr. Frank Eseoghene Ibie, Mr Johnson Dukuye and all that donated especially some teachers who personally donated in cash and kind towards the success of the programme.
The Principal used the occasion to call on the school’s respected friends and people of good will to come to the aid of the school as matter of urgency especially as it concerns the security of the school and the broken fence which is yet to be rehabilitated, tables and chairs for the school hall, empty classes. Again, she said, the school is in dare need of library, light, water and generator set among others. According to her, the above mentioned facilities will pave way for effective teaching and learning to take place in the school.
She thanked the Delta State Governor, Rt.Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu, Permanent Secretary, Post Primary Education Board, Delta- South Senatorial District, Dr (Mrs) Awoke A. .Ejedimu, Chief Inspector of Education, Warri South, Dr Samson Ugbejeh, Chief Assistant Education Officer, Ministry of Education, Warri South, Obodo Ann among others for their support for the school so far and urged them to continue in this regard.
Catching the Ugbuwangue Line
The event which featured four houses namely: Red, Green,Yellow and Blue where students participated in both field and track events including catching Ugbuwangue Line, saw Blue take 1st with 239 points, Yellow, 2nd with 219 points,and Green 3rd with 204 points. The high-point was the presentation of prizes and trophies to the winners amidst jubilation.
