A shocking incident has rocked the Southern Delta University Community in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State as a female student of the institution was allegedly stabbed by her ex-boyfriend over her denial of sex. According to eyewitness, the incident occurred on Thursday last week at the University auditorium. It was said that the suspect whose identity remained unclosed lured the victim to the auditorium and attacked her with a knife when she rejected his demands for sex. Investigations revealed that the suspect purchased the knife specifically for the attack.
It was learnt that the victim sustained serious neck injuries but managed to escape and seek help. The victim is currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. The suspect was however arrested by the Nigeria Police Force shortly after the incident. The police are determined to bring justice to the victim as investigations are ongoing.
The University Management has condemned the attack and assured students of tighter security measures. However, the school’s decision to ban students’ gatherings at the football court has raised questions, given the incident occurred at the auditorium. The attack has sparked widespread outrage on social media,with graphic videos from the scene showing bloodstains on the auditorium floor going viral.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command Asaba, SP Bright Edafe confirmed the incident. He however said, it was not an issue of ex-girlfriend but case of kidnapping. According to him, after the suspect has stabbed the girl, he called the girl’s parents and demanded for ransom of two million Naira. His words:” l think, he tried to kill the girl, they are not dating”. He said the suspect is the Police’ custody.
