In a calculated attempt for citizens to have a cleaner energy,President Bola Tinubu has banned the purchase of petrol- dependent vehicles by members of the Federal Executive Council(FEC). The President, according to the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity,Ajuri Ngelale, the directive was in order with government’s plan to ensure energy protection,use and reduction of high fuel costs. Accordingly,by this, all Governments’ Ministries, Departments and Agencies should acquire compressed-natural-gas-powered vehicles.
The CNG-enabled vehicles are known to produce lower emissions just it is an affordable alternative for Nigerian energy consumers. In his address at Federal Executive Council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, President Tinubu said he has resolved to continue the energy reforms initiated by his administration. Meanwhile, the President Tinubu has rejected recommendations by members of FEC who intend to buy traditional petrol-dependent vehicles as they have been instructed to comply with the procurement of CNG vehicles.
President Tinubu is determined to utilize the nation’s gas resources, reduce the challenges faced by Nigerians in the area of transportation as that would pave way for standard of living of Nigerians.
