Nigeria Police Command have neutralised three suspected armed robbers and recovered one cut- to- size- locally-fabricated gun, two- live cartridges, an unregistered black Toyota Corolla car and eight different vehicles. The operation which was carried out by operatives attached to “B” Division Warri led by DPO SP Bolarinwa Alabi on the 22nd June, 2023 at about 1020 hours, was possible based on the distress call to the Police.
The armed robbers were operating along Ugborikoko/Giwa-Amu –Airport Road Warri, Delta State with unregistered black Toyota Corolla car. When the armed robbers sighted the Police advancing towards them, opened fire at the Police and the Police team responded and gun duel ensued between the Police and the hoodlums and in the process, three of the hoodlums were fatally injured while other members of the gang escaped with bullet injuries. The suspected armed robbers could not however make it as they gave up the ghost on their way to the hospital.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, Asaba, DSP Bright Edafe said:” The injured suspects gave up the ghost while they were being taken to the hospital. Exhibit recovered includes one cut –to-size -locally fabricated gun, two cartridges, an unregistered black Toyota Corolla car and eight different vehicles keys, manhunt for the other fleeing suspects is ongoing”.
In a related development, on same day (22nd June, 2023), at about 1030 hours, the Operatives of Rapid Response Squad(RRS) while on visibility/ confidence building patrol along Asaba-Benin Express Road by Issele Asagba, sighted a suspicious looking young man with a sac(bag) pretending to be waiting for a vehicle. Just as the operatives alighted from their vehicle, the suspect took to his heels leaving the sac (bag) and the Police went after him but he escaped. When the bag was searched, one pump- action gun and six- live cartridges were recovered and efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspect.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, Asaba, DSP Bright Edafe said:” Operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) while on visibility/confidence building patrol along Asaba-Benin Express Road by Issele Asagba, sighted a suspicious looking young man with a sac (bag) pretending to be waiting for a vehicle . As soon as the operatives alighted from their vehicle, the suspect took to his heels abandoning the sac(bag), he was chased but he escaped. Upon searching the abandoned bag, one pump action gun and six live cartridges were recovered.”
According to DSP Edafe, the Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Wale Abass urged members of the public particularly Deltans to be mindful of their environment and ensure that any suspicious persons or movement within their environment is promptly reported to the nearest police station.
