Delta State Governorship candidate on the platform of All Progressives Congress(APC) in the 2023 general elections, and immediate past Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has empowered Non- indigenous youths of Delta by way of entrepreneurial training in the state. The programme which took place on Wednesday at Eku House Enerhen Junction , Warri in Warri South Local Government Area saw the participants train in different skills such as soap making, baking of different foods, among others.
In a chat with newsmen, the Senior Legislative Aid to Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Nze Iwuchukwu Athanasius Ekezie said the programme was organized to empower the youths to be self- reliant especially those who are idle. According to him, the training would afford the youth to stay from crimes and reduce the level of poverty among the people.
According to him, the condition of Nigeria requires a person to learn a trade to enable him put food on his table. His words:” We are embarking on this training for the youths to be self- sustained, the condition of country shows that you need to learn something for yourself.”
He said, there are over one hundred people that would be trained in different skills and it would be in series adding, after this set, another set would under go the same training.
According to him, for now, after training starter packs would not be provided for them but just to get them train in the first instance. He however said as time goes on, he would see what can be done to see them through in that regard. He said:” We told them, the training is done by way of contributions of the executives of Senator Ovie Omo- Agege. For now, no starter packs but we want to give them that training to enable them sustain themselves”.
Ekezie therefore advised the trainees to take the training seriously Just as he charged them to put into good use what they have learnt and would learn in the programme.
