The General Officer Command,6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj.Gen. J H Abdusallam said today that the Nigerian Army would protect Nigerian oil facilities from theft as this would create a conducive environment for increase in the oil output which will in turn increase Federal Government’s revenues. Maj. Gen. Abdusallam stated this at the commissioning of newly reconstructed 3 Battalion Soldiers transit accommodation at the Nigerian Army Barracks,Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to Maj. Gen Abdusallam, Nigerian’s economy much dependents on oil adding that, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave matching order the oil facilities must be protected if reasonable revenues must be got from it to sustain the nation. His words:”We should do all it takes to increase and improve the output of crude oil for the benefits of our country. We have been in series of operation in the Niger Delta both in Rivers State, Bayelsa, Delta, and others”.
Maj. Gen. Abdusallam said that the production of crude oil has increased over the years as the efforts of the Nigerian Army in carrying out many operations has yielded positive results. His words:”We have destroyed so many illegal refineries; we can’t even mention the numbers because they are so many. And we have confiscated so many illegal products.”
According to Maj.Gen.Abdusallam, illegal bunkers should channel their energy towards genuine means of livelihood to make money and forgo criminal ways of making money. His words:”There are many genuine ways of making money, it is not only through the stealing of our common natural resources with which the country stands”.
