The Vice Chancellor,Delta State University Abraka, Professor Andy O.Egwunyenga said his dream of transforming the Delta State University, Abraka,Delta State to be the first Class University in Nigeria has been achieved in the last four and half years of his administration as the school ranks top 10% among Universities in Nigeria and Africa among others.
Professor Egwunyenga disclosed this at a press conference to mark the 16th Convocation of the Ivory Tower today,Tuesday at the school premises.

According to him, this has been the idea he shared with the Senate and the entire University Community. Professor Egwunyenga said the school provided quality teaching to the students and focused on the improving on the morals of staff by creating harmony and addressing genuine cases of injustice and building a well lucrative workforce. He said, the school has expanded its infrastructure for teaching and learning of new degree programmes among which are bio-technology, dentistry, recreational technology, entrepreneurship,and Open Distance Learning Programmes.

According to the Vice Chancellor,the population of the institution at present is about doubled when he took over the administration of the school years ago saying, many facilities have been rehabilitated just as he said there is great harmony, peace, understanding among staff and students.

He said the school has built new faculty of management sciences and arts where this press briefing took place. He said,this building was possible with the funds and contribution of the school fees. Among other things, he said, the school, for the last five years has had stable and uninterrupted programmes which he attributed to the efforts of stakeholders to university projects.
According to Professor Egwunyenga, the school has a robust relationship between the community and the state government as it remained committed to true mandate of quality teaching, research, enterprises and community service.

His words:”Delta State University has continued to foster international collaboration and partnership with scientists and institutions all over the world, we have international conferences on critical issues including artificial intelligence,gender improvements and we have featured prominently in professional learning society..”
According to Professor Egwunyenga, the institution has improved through the use of ICT and other digital tools to remain relevant in the competitive 21st century academic world. The Vice Chancellor who said he tilted his conference as:” Sustaining Improvement Strides and Celebrating Excellence” said, there are a lot of projects already completed by the school which would be commissioned by Delta State Governor, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori within the time of the convocation, which, according to him, include the already connected 33 KVA to generate 24 hours electricity to the school for effective teaching and learning to take place, faculty of science extension which houses lecture halls, among others which came about through the efforts of the state government, ultra-modern micro biology laboratory,among others.

The VC said the convocation will be used as avenue to honour some prominent Nigerians for their outstanding contributions to the school, among whom, is Professor Sam Oyovbaire who will be honoured with the Dr Of Letters among other awardees. The high point of the press conference was the exhibition of art works of the school which were inspected by the VC , his Management Staff, students, journalists among others.
