Chairman, Governing Board, Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission(DESOPADEC) Hon Chief John Nani has been honoured by Urhobo Progress Union Women Wing World Wide for his humanitarian services. The ceremony which took place at Urhobo Cultural Centre, Okere Road, Warri was attended by 10 women each drawn from the 24 Kingdoms in Urhobo land, the President General of UPU, Barr. Gam Owe and other UPU stakeholders.

Presenting the Award to Hon.Chief Nani, the Director General of Contributing Insurance Commission, Delta State, Chief Dr Isaac Akpoveta said it is Hon. Chief John Nani that made this health scheme for women possible saying that, his job was to ensure the women register. He therefore thanked Hon. Chief John Nani for his benevolence just as he appealed to other sons and daughters of Urhobo land, philanthropists and others to emulate Nani’s gesture saying that, health is a right, not a privilege of the few.

On their part, the women who spoke through the President of UPU Women Wing, World Wide, Chief Dame Rose Oghene said Hon. Chief John Nani deserved the award as a result of his numerous contributions to humanity especially Urhobo people. According to her, for Hon. Chief Nani, to have single handedly enrolled 240 women with 10 women drawn from each kingdom into Delta State Health Insurance Scheme is a thing of joy as that would make them live long.
Her words:” On behalf of UPU Women Wing World wide, l expressed gratitude to Hon. Chief John Nani to have enrolled us in health Delta State Health Insurance. With this, those women who not afford medical care would be able to get one and that of course, would enable us live long. With this, other Urhobo sons and daughters are already queuing up to help us.”The women therefore prayed for God’s continuous blessings to him just as they wished him good health.

Responding, Hon. Chief John Nani said since many of Urhobo Women especially the aged ones can not afford medical bills of hospital when they are sick hence he has to empower the women to enable have free medical care in the hospital of their choice in the state. According to him, this is the first batch of the gesture adding that subsequently, other group of women would be enrolled in the scheme. He therefore called on other well meaning Urhobo sons and daughters of the Kingdom to emulate this gesture to see that many of the vulnerable women have free medical care.
He said:” When l discover that other ethnic groups in the state are helping their people in this direction, l have to help our people as well” The high point of the ceremony was the presentation of plaque to Hon. John Nani in one hand and the handing over of the health insurance scheme cards to beneficiaries on .the other.
