The Federal Government has been called upon to equip all Nigerians with the knowledge of Science and Technology to combat insecurity challenges in Nigeria. This charge was made yesterday, Tuesday, at the 8th Annual Conference of School of Science, College Of Education, Warri, Delta State. In a key note address of the seminar with the theme: Insecurity In Nigeria: “The Role Of Science And Technology”, Dr. Henry Ojogan, said, the seminar is held in order for the government to use the communique that would emanate from it to equip the citizenry to tackle insecurity challenges in Nigeria saying, tackling insecurity should not be left alone in the hands of security agencies.
He said:” The seminar is held to see that the communiqué which would emanate from it, would be used by the federal government to equip all Nigerians in order to combat insecurity in the country”.
Citing an example, Dr. Henry Ojogan who is of the Department of Curriculum Studies, School of Education, College of Education, Warri, Delta State, said, if a market woman is equipped with the knowledge of science and technology, if she sees a strange object around her in the market, she would be able to raise alarm and such an object is disposed off adding, that is the technique the terrorists are using to torment this country. Dr. Ojogan said many people do not understand how science and technology works adding, from the knowledge given in this seminar through the communique; it would be easy for people to detect strange object(s) in their environment.
He said:” Everybody is a security personnel, it cannot be left alone in the hands of security agencies and for you to beat insecurity, you must be familiar with your environment.” He said as academics in this field, they thought it wise to organize the seminar to proffer solutions to insecurity in Nigeria. The seminar which kicked off on Monday, November 14 is billed to end on Thursday, November 17, 2022.
