A member representing Sapele,Okpe and Uvwie in Federal House of representatives, Hon. Barr.Benedict Etanabene has empowered people in the Constituency with ICT and Sewing training programmes. Speaking at the commissioning of the ICT Centre built for the programme in Our Lady’s High School Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area on Wednesday, by His Royal Majesty, (Dr) Emmanuel Sideso, Abe I JP, the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, Hon. Barr. Etanabene said he has decided to embark on the programme in order for the people to be able continue to take care of themselves and their families.

According to him, the idea of giving stipends to the people in the constituency which would not last long in the name of empowerment should be done away with rather, the people should be given what would continue to feed them and their families. His words:” This is part of decision to bring the dividends of democracy to the grassroots in my constituency. We want to shift from the ideas of giving stipends that will not last for 24 hours into creating opportunities for they themselves and their families to depend on”.

Hon. Etanabene said there are 41 sewing machines for those to be trained in sewing,31 laptops for those in ICT programme saying, each of the trainees has been given stipends to make them comfortable while the programmes lasted.
Hon. Etanabene who said after this batch of trainees, other group of people would be selected based on the recommendations from the party, communities leaders, churches among others as this present one, charged the beneficiaries of the programme to take it seriously to enable it achieve the purpose it is meant. He promised to sustain the programme even after leaving office as that has been his passion to impact positively on the lives of the People.

On his part, the Ovie of Uvwie, His Royal Majesty, (Dr) Emmanuel Sideso, Abe I JP, thanked Hon. Etanabene for establishing the programme in Uvwie Local Government Area to empower the people adding, if he has decided to put it somewhere else, he could have done it. According him, it is the handiwork of God that made Hon. Etanabene to embark on the programme to better the lives of the people. The Royal Father said with the programme being put in the local government area, he has not only made the Hon. Etanabene proud but he(Ovie) himself.

He said: ” First of all, l have to thank you to have listened to the words of Elders .Like you rightly said,. this is not politics.. It is God that sent you here to assist the needy in this place…”The Royal Father charged the beneficiaries of programme to make use of the opportunity of the training to better their live just as he charged the Management of the school to maintain the facilities while the programme empowers the people as they never expected such projects in the school.
Not left is Rev. Father Dr. Oghenejode Ambrose Abaka who represented the Catholic Authority. He thanked Hon. Etanabene to have established such an outfit in Our Lady’s High School to run such a programme. He therefore charged the beneficiaries not to sell the machines but use the opportunity the programmes offers to better their lives.
In separate interviews, two women leaders, Ward 2, Raluchukwu Nwokafor and Ward 6, Binitia Juliet both in Sapele Local Government Area, who are beneficiaries thanked Hon. Etanabene for the kind gesture and promised to take the programme seriously just as they prayed for God’s blessings for him to continue with the good work he has started.
The high-point of the programme was the distribution of the sewing machines to the various beneficiaries and inspection of the computers amid cheers.
