By Samuel Ogude & Barachel Ukuta
Against the background of the deplorable state of Effurun/ Sapele Road close to Mercy Land Church in Uvwie Local Government Area of the state, Deltans have called on the State and Federal Government to effect repairs of the road to ameliorate the suffering of the people (motorists and pedestrians). Speaking to Bailout Magazine on the state of road today, Wednesday, many motorists said their vehicles have stuck on the road for the past four days with their goods adding, they have been passing through untold hardship with this situation.
A young commercial tricycle rider who could not mention his name due to the frustration, said, on Tuesday (yesterday) in an attempt for two vehicles to maneuver their way, they fell on each other and this led to the death of two persons. According to him, the state of the road has added pain and suffering to the plight of the people which the people have been experiencing due to the bad economy. His words: “Food is very costly yet, there is no road to pass, and many of the traders’ goods have spoilt. Many of the traders here cannot sell their goods because no road for buyers to pass to buy.”
On the part of the traders, they said for the past four days, many of the vehicles have been stuck on the road, neither any vehicles coming in nor any one going out. In separate interviews, three traders lamented how the state of the road has affected their business. They complained bitterly that since the road got spoilt, there has been low patronage as there is no road for customers to pass to purchase their goods, the action which has led to their goods spoilage. One of the traders said:” For the past four days, we have not been selling our goods. All the goods we have bought, we have not been able sell them”.
They all appealed to the state and federal government to come their aid because, they are already tensed up with the harsh economy in the country. Others who spoke in the same vein said if the federal government cannot help, the state government can do the needful by effecting the road repairs to ameliorate the suffering of the people.
