The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Police Command, CP Wale Abass said, his Command is ready to make the state uncomfortable for kidnappers, armed -robbers and persons of questionable character and therefore asked them to relocate or face the wrath of the law when caught.
CP Abass stated this when briefing news men in Asaba the state capital recently. According to him, after briefing the press few days ago on the achievements of the Command from 1st July 2023 to September 30th 2023, based on the policing strategies embarked upon by Acting Inspector¬-General of Police Ag. IGP King ayode Adeolu Egbetokun NPM, he expressed joy that strategy is paying off as the Command has recorded lots of achievements.
He said:”Our dogged resolve to totally key into the mission and vision of the IGP has paid off as the Command recorded another major success. This recent achievement has demonstrated the Command’s preparedness for effective policing during the ember months and beyond”.
According to him,kidnapping which has been a crime of concern in the state has been reduced to the barest minimum to the swift policing interventions. He said, two months ago, the Command arrested some suspected kidnappers, including one Ese–Oghene Ezekiel, who masterminded the kidnap of his brother (Name withheld) and members of his household at Oha Community, Okpe Local Government Area during which, one Regina Ogana, the brother’s wife was shot dead.
He said,the initial success notwithstanding,he gave the Divisional Police Officer, Oreorokpe Division, CSP. Paul Oboware, marching orders, to ensure every other persons involved in the crime was brought to book.
Speaking further, he said, the strategy paid as off on 13th October,2023, at about 1423hrs, after an exhaustive and painstaking investigation process, aided by technically generated intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer, Oreorokpe, mobilized and personally led men of the Divisional Anti-Crime Patrol team, stormed Ofuoma in Ughelli North Local Local Government Area where two male suspects namely, James Aboyo ‘m’ aged 21 and Solomon Gbolode ‘m’ were arrested for their involvement in the incident.
He said , consequent upon their arrest, the team proceeded to conduct search on their premises and hideouts saying one Blessing Deco ‘m’ aged 22 was arrested while other gang members upon sighting the approaching Police team, took to their heels.
According to him, when the house was searched, the Police recovered Four (4) AK- 47 Rifles ,One (1) Pump Action, One (1) locally-made -single Barrel Cut-to-size Pistol, Fifty-Eight (58) Rounds of 7.62 Live Ammunition , Thirteen (13) Live Cartridges, Five (5) Packs of Improvised Explosive devices, Six (6) Detonators, and Eight (8) Empty Magazines.
He added that the suspects have confessed their involvement in the crime and other kidnapping incidents in the state adding , they are in Police’ custody, assisting the Police in investigation while manhunt for the other fleeing members of the gang is ongoing.
The CP therefore called on Deltans to give useful information that would aid Police Command’s operation just as he commended officers for this achievement and urged them to sustain this good work just as he charged other officers to emulate this gesture.
