The dirty politics and tension surrounding the declaration of DSC Township, Orhuwhorun in Udu Local Government Area as an autonomous community outside the indigenous owners of Orhuwhorun, Ekete Inland, Ovwian, Ujevwu and Egini had been defused.
The Udu Council Executive Chairman, Chief Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode made the declaration in the Council Headquarters, Otor-Udu, Delta State, on the occasion of a courtesy visit of a group of Udu Indigenes working in the DSC Technical High School(THS) Orhuwhorun under the management of Premium Steel and Mines Limited.
There has been agitations as to renaming the DSC Township as an autonmous community in Udu Local Government Area with disregard of the original ownership by the Orhuwhorun Community. The Council Chairman stated that one Hon. Jonathan Tuomeruo and his group had earlier approached the Council with requests to make DSC Township as an autonomous Community in Udu Local Government Area but turned down their request.
His words: “What is community? The Chairman asked? Oghior is my community, and if a company located in the place has an estate, will that estate later become an autonmous community? According to him, things are not done that way saying, a community has its peculiar features: the culture( mores) peculiar to the people. His words: “What are the traditional beliefs of the people residing in the DSC Township?”
The Chairman advised the people in the township not to dissipate their energy and resources in the pursuit of an autonomous community saying, the idea is not workable just as he assured them of his commitment to bring the dividends of democracy to the people in accordance with His Excellency, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Delta State Governor’s M.O.R.E AGENDA.
According to Udu Council boss, plans are underway to have a farm market in Udu Local Government Area through the Council’s acquired expanse of land. His words: “We will engage a public-private partnership to organize our farms and there shall be a farm-market where buyers buy directly from the farms and this will make the prices of produce low as much as possible.
“Since we resumed office after my successful swearing- in, the Council has mended some roads in Udu. For the avoidance of doubt, some bad portions in Ovwian Grammar School, Daddy Bakery and Ubogo had been given a facelift”.
In attendance in the meeting were: Hon Mrs Omovie Oputu Emojevwe, Udu Council Vice Chairman, Hon. Andrew Gbise, Secretary to the Local Government, Mr. J. E. Sido, Principal, DSC THS, Mr. Aghomi, Mr. Esiefarienrhe, Chief A. Y. Tataunu, Mrs. Ufuoma Anikibe and other Council officials.
