Nigerian USA- based -legal luminary, Chris Okobah said the court has become a guff and bleeding ground for electoral frauds which have caused more harm than good to the country’s democracy saying as such, it is no longer the last hope of the common man and therefore tasked Nigerians to tighten the knots of the nation’s electoral system to stop the judiciary from deciding the fate of election results.
Okobah stated this yesterday in a chat with journalists in Asaba the state capital. Okobah who arrived Nigeria from U.S.A recently, said, the call became necessary as the court has become a place political class always run to have their way after manipulating the electoral systems .
According to him, the uncertainty and confusion in the air following the recent court’s Judgements show that the court is now “the last hope of the corrupt politicians because they get what they want, after all”.
His words:”It is nonsense when we say that the court is the last hope of the common man. The court is now the last hope of corrupt politicians because they use it to get what they want. So, why must we live our electoral system to court to decide, it only happens though, because of the manipulations in the system.
One of the court’s Judgements which are creating additional State in the country to “making Abuja now a State is an embarrassing comical situation, and is more or less telling Nigerians we are stupid”.
“How can you tell us, Nigeria is 37 States when it was never written that Nigeria comprises of 36 States and a Federal Capital Territory. Abuja is different status, but not a State status; even it baffled me the way some lawyers are still defending what is not right”.
Okobah called on President Bola Tinubu to put facilities in place to create jobs, and other means to make people engage in meaningful livelihoods as neither the palliative given by the Presidency in the name of cushioning the effects of subsidy removal nor the sharing of eight thousand naira (#8,000.00) or ten thousand naira ( # 10,000.00) will solve any problem of Nigerians, saying, on the long run, both modalities are to further enrich the political leaders.
On the insecurity system in the country , the Estate Valuer cum Politician said the insecurity situation in Nigeria is worrisome as the country is now a hotbed for criminals to strive- carrying out their crimes without challenge. He said insecurity has snowballed into unpalatable and undesirable situation whereby lives and property are no longer saved, particularly for average person who has no means of defending himself.
