This segment takes a look at the union between the subject and the verb of a sentence. This union gives room for an effective communication.
SUBJECT/ VERB AGREEMENT:
- Subject: A subject is the doer or the performer of an action in a sentence. It also refers to what is being discussed in a sentence. E.g
1. John goes to school.(performerof an action).
2.Johnis a wicked man.(what is being discussed)
A subject can be a noun or a pronoun in a sentence .
- Noun: A noun is a name of any person, place, thing or an idea. A noun can be singular or plural. A plural noun is formed with the addition of “s”.” es”, “ies” and “ves”, “en” in regular noun while the irregular nouns have their changes within.
E.g
Singular Plural
- Boy —- boys
- Girl —– girls
- Church —— churches
- Lady —— ladies
- Leaf ——- leaves
Note: “ch” in “church” has “es”, the “y”on lady changes to “I” before the addition of “es” and “f” in “leaf”changes to “v” before the addition of “es”
IRREGULAR NOUNS PLURAL: As earlier said, it changes within. E.g
Singular plural
- Tooth ——- teeth
- Mouse ——– mice
- Foot ——– feet
- Goose ——— geese
- Pronoun: A pronoun is a word used instead or in place of a noun. E.g , she, it, you, they,
I, we, he (Subjects) him, her, you, them, me, us, (object pronouns). Again,a pronoun can be singular and plural. E.g
