College of Commerce Old Students Association, Warri in Warri South Local Government Area , Delta State has donated sporting equipment to enhance sporting activities in the school. Among the equipment donated are high jump , volley ball and table tennis court .
Speaking at the occasion, the National President of the body, Enijuni Kolawale Victor said the body is poised to promote sporting activities in the school. According to him, the school is recognized for sporting activities as the institution has won several awards / prizes for excellent performances in sporting competitions in Delta State and beyond . He said, apart from the sporting equipment, the body has done several projects in the school.
According to him, the body has earlier donated challenge cup to the school- all to encourage and see that, they (students ) perform well sports wise in the school just as he said, the body would continue to do their best in this regard.
He said:”We are poised to promote sports in the school that Is why when the Principal of the school told us that the school needed a high jump stand for the school, we deemed it wise that we are going to add another sporting material to it, which is the valley ball, all to enhance the students’ performance in sports”.
The President therefore charged the school to make judicious use of the materials at all times just as he charged them to keep the tempo of their academic performance as the body would be ready to assist the school in the areas of needs from time to time.
Receiving the equipment, the Principal of the College, Mrs. Oyibo E. Queen expressed gratitude for the items and thanked the body for a job well done just as she promised that the equipment would be judiciously used to make the school to be second to none in sports in the country.
She said:”I am happy for the equipment and I know, with these, students will participate fully in sporting activities in the school.”
Meanwhile, the Principal of the school expressed joy for the excellent performance of the students who came out best speaker in a debate competition organized by BAF Foundation that was showcased in Delta Broadcasting Service, Warri , Delta State.
According to her, she was not surprised at the performance of the students in the competition as they are always prepared for such. She said, the students have been going out from time to time for competitions and they have been winning saying, the school prepares them early enough.
She said :”Apart from academic activities, our students have always been engaged in extracurricular activities among which is sporting competition and they have been winning by the grace of God, so, I am not surprised at their excellent performance in the competition”.
While thanking the students for making the school proud, she urged them to keep the flag flying in this direction. She also thanked the teachers in the school who always take time off their busy academic activities to groom the students in extra-curricular activities as their efforts are always yielding positive results . The Principal used the medium to appeal to parents to always encourage their children to participate in extracurricular activities for them to be developed in all areas of life.
The teacher who took the students for the competition, Pastor Mrs. Ogbimi Omowumi A. did not hide her joy as she thanked the students to have made the school proud by their performance just as she thanked the Principal for her words of encouragement and advice for the students, which always make the students to come out in flying colours in this regard. She promised to put in her best to ensure that the students practise and always engage in competitions to enable them come out with prizes/awards at all times.
