Niger Delta former militant leader, High Chief Oweizide Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo said the Ijaw Annual Amaseikumor Festival is meant to bring peace and development to Ijaw Nation in particular, the local government and the country at large. High Chief Ekpemupolo stated this in a chat with newsmen during the grand finale of the Amaseikumor Annual Festival 2923 held at Oporoza Community in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State weekend.
High Chief Ekpemupolo who used the occasion to advise Nigerans: politicians, traditional rulers and clergy to do the right thing, speak the truth and stand by it, saying, this is only way the country would be good for all and sundry.
He said:” Nigerians and everybody in Nigeria should do the right thing being you politician, traditional ruler ,Pastor and stand by the truth.”
High Chief Ekpemupolo who expressed gratitude for the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, HRM. Oboro Gbaraun who was flanked by other kings from the Niger Delta region expressed thanks for the success of the festival for the year.
The Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, HRM. Oboro Gbaraun II used the occasion to confer a Chieftaincy title: “Agadiwei” on All Progressives Congress, APC’ stalwart, Chief Michael Johnny and eight others bearing different titles in the kingdom. The colourful event which took place at Monarch’s palace.
In his speech, the Fiowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Chief God’spower Gbenekama said the titles are not for fun and advised the male Chiefs not to use the titles to force women into marriages without their consent adding, they would be stripped of their titles if they failed to adhere to this advice.
He said:” Don’t use our traditional title to woe women; It’s an abomination if you do that. Don’t come and flaunt your riches here. Don’t use your title in the market places. If you do, the King will deal decisively with you”. “No title is hereditary according to the rules and regulations of the Kingdom so that you’re not dealt with” he added.
In his acceptance speech on behalf of other title Chieftaincy title holders, Chief Michael Johnny promised to use their titles to attract more development to the people of Gbaramatu Kingdom in particular, the local government and the country at large.
The festival which was climaxed with traditional wresting competition also showcased the football match between Esaba Community and Oporoza where Esaba Community defeated Oporoza 1-0 and trophy was presented to the winner amidst cheers.
