The Vice Chancellor of the University of Delta, Agbor, Prof Eric Eboh, has stressed the need for members of the public to support the resource bases of universities in their localities in order to boost their capacities in teaching, research and community development. The Vice Chancellor stated this on Monday while responding to the donation of 213 books to the university by Hon Nduka Irabor and Barr Ebele Irabor in Agbor Campus.
Prof. Eboh described the books, covering different areas of Legal, Media and Business Studies, as a huge blessing to the physical library holdings of the university, especially as they are very current and relevant to the academic programmes offered in the institution. He praised Hon and Barr Irabor for being among the first persons to respond to the university’s call for help from members of the public.
The Vice Chancellor reiterated that the donation of the books, worth millions of naira, is in line with his administration’s RAISE UNIDEL Higher Project, especially in the promotion of an academic environment conducive for students’ overall development, stressing that the books will be deplored to support teaching, learning and overall academic development of the institution.
Presenting the books, Hon Nduka Irabor, accompanied by his wife, Barr Ebele Irabor, pointed out that they decided to donate the books in response to the university’s call for help. He said they made effort to provide at least one copy each of all the titles of books submitted to them by the university as critical areas of need in Legal, Media and Business Studies.
He promised to continue to support the University of Delta, Agbor, in appreciation of the good work by both the pioneer and incumbent Vice Chancellor, who he described as astute academic administrators, worthy of emulation, and pledged to return before the end of the year with more donations. Hon Irabor equally undertook to draw from his wealth of experience in journalism to partner with the Department of Mass Communication of the university in the training of future journalists in order to prepare them for fruitful careers.
Present at the ceremony were the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Patrick Ijeh, as well as other principal officers and top management staff of the university.
