Intrepid human rights activist, Comrade Emeka Nwokocha, has inaugurated the Association of Igbo Democrats (AIDEM), as political activities gain momentum in Delta State and across Nigeria.
Addressing journalists in Warri following the inauguration, Comr. Nwokocha who serves as the national coordinator of AIDEM, explained that the group was created to answer the call of well-meaning Nigerians seeking to rescue the country from its dangerous political trajectory.
The AIDEM national coordinator noted that true democracy empowers people to choose their government through fair contests. He lamented, however, that current political actors regularly discard democratic principles, opting for fraudulent schemes to secure power rather than allowing transparent elections.
He remarked that the decay of the Nigeria’s democratic process had reached a worrying level, making the creation of AIDEM crucial for restoring integrity and political stability in Nigeria.
He charged the Igbo population in Delta State to uphold a democratic system free from the widespread voter manipulation, and financial inducement, which he noted have become commonplace over the years.
“Speaking as a bonafide Nigerian who believes in our nation’s democratic future, I urge all citizens to guard their independence. Do not allow yourselves to be coerced into supporting politicians who lack genuine concern for the poor and offer nothing of value to effective governance,” Comr. Nwokocha stated.
Asked if AIDEM would endorse candidates or parties in the 2027 elections, Comrade Nwokocha declared that AIDEM will align only with credible political figures in the 2027 elections. He explicitly confirmed that Peter Obi will receive AIDEM’s endorsement for the presidency, while urging Ndigbo in Delta State and nationwide to vote for Obi alongside other trustworthy candidates, regardless of their political affiliation.
Continuing, Comrade Nwokocha declared that AIDEM has launched an active awareness campaign throughout Delta State, urging the Igbo community to leverage their size and unity to shape the 2027 general election outcomes. He advised Ndigbo to protect their voting rights and ensure they cast their ballots solely for credible candidates no matter their political party.
