A Chevron company and operator of the Agbami Field, Star Deep Water Petroleum Limited (SDWPL), has emerged as the successful bidder for Petroleum Prospecting Licence (PPL) 2010 in Nigeria’s 2025 oil licensing round.
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) announced the winners of the licensing round in Abuja on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. In a statement signed by the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Chevron Nigeria and Mid-Africa Region, Olusoga Oduselu, the company described the award as a significant milestone that reinforces Chevron’s long-term commitment to Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
Commenting on the development, the Chairman and Managing Director of Chevron companies in Nigeria and the Mid-Africa region expressed appreciation to the NUPRC and other stakeholders for conducting a successful licensing round.
“We appreciate the efforts of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission and all stakeholders in delivering a successful licensing round,” he said. He added: “Chevron remains committed to working collaboratively with the Nigerian government and our partners to support the development of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry and contribute to the country’s broader economic growth.”
Also speaking, Chevron’s Vice President of Exploration said the award aligns with the company’s strategic approach to expanding its exploration portfolio. “This award reflects our disciplined approach to adding quality acreage to our portfolio. Chevron continues to evaluate high-potential exploration opportunities across our global portfolio, with Nigeria long being an important part of our business,” he said.
According to the statement, the award of PPL 2010 supports Chevron’s global exploration strategy, which combines technology-enabled exploration, disciplined portfolio management and selective investment in high-potential opportunities. The company noted that, beyond Nigeria, it continues to advance exploration activities across Africa while strengthening its global portfolio to help develop the energy needed to drive economic growth and human progress.
