The Delta State Police Command has rescued a kidnap victim who was abducted by suspected kidnappers in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to police sources, the incident occurred on June 1, 2026, when armed kidnappers reportedly invaded a residence at Denedo Extension in Abraka and abducted a resident whose identity was withheld. The suspects allegedly led the victim through a bush path near the railway line. Upon receiving information about the abduction, officers of the Abraka Police Division, acting on intelligence gathered from residents and on the directive of the Delta State Commissioner of Police, C.P Yemi Oyeniyi launched a rescue operation.
The police team, led by the Divisional Police Officer, S.P Ibrahim Kahuwani Akaku, and supported by local vigilantes and hunters, combed the forest and railway corridor on June 3 in search of the victim. Police sources disclosed that the kidnappers abandoned the victim and fled deeper into the forest after sighting the advancing security operatives. The victim was rescued unharmed and subsequently reunited with family members.
The incident has reportedly heightened fear and anxiety among residents of Abraka and neighbouring communities, where kidnapping cases have become increasingly frequent in recent times. Meanwhile, police authorities have assured residents that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspects. Members of the public have also been urged to report suspicious movements and criminal activities to security agencies to help prevent future kidnapping incidents.
