The governorship candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in Delta State for the 2027 general election, Engr. Isaac Eshor, has assured Deltans of accelerated human capital development and economic growth if elected governor.
Eshor made the pledge during an interview with journalists on Wednesday in Udu, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State. According to him, despite the huge resources accruing to the state over the years, poor management of public funds has continued to fuel poverty and underdevelopment across Delta. He said his administration would prioritize youth empowerment through comprehensive skills acquisition programmes aimed at creating self-reliance and employment opportunities for young people.
The AAC governorship hopeful also pledged to leverage his background in marine engineering to attract foreign investors into the maritime sector, which he described as one of the state’s most underutilized economic assets. His words: “I have the contacts to bring foreign investors into the maritime sector, which has enormous economic potential but has been largely neglected. Through strategic investments, Delta State can develop its own shipping lines and create thousands of jobs.”
While acknowledging efforts by previous administrations in road construction and rehabilitation, Eshor argued that road infrastructure alone cannot justify the substantial revenues received by the state. His words: “Roads are basic necessities of life and the right of every citizen. No government should boast of constructing and rehabilitating roads because they are fundamental responsibilities of government.”
On education, Eshor promised to introduce free education from primary school to university level, describing it as a practical way of easing the financial burden on parents and improving access to quality education.
His words: “If elected governor, apart from implementing skills acquisition programmes for our people, education will be made free from primary school to university level in Delta State to support indigent families.” The AAC candidate also pledged reforms in the health sector, including free medical care and delivery services for pregnant women across the state.
He further promised enhanced welfare for senior citizens, noting that many pensioners and elderly persons suffer due to irregular pension payments. According to him, his administration would introduce monthly stipends for residents aged 60 years and above, with benefits exceeding the current minimum wage.
Eshor criticized what he described as the continuous recycling of the same political class, arguing that it has hindered innovation and effective governance in the country. His words: “Many of these old politicians have nothing new to offer. The recycling of the same set of leaders over the years is one of the reasons we are not making the desired progress as a nation.”
The Oshimili North-born politician assured Deltans that his administration would be prudent in the management of public resources, emphasizing that government funds would be invested in programmes that directly improve the welfare of citizens.
He also promised to operate an inclusive government and an open-door administration where all communities in the state would have a sense of belonging. “My administration will run an all-inclusive government, not one centered around family interests. Every community will be represented and carried along in governance. This is not just a campaign promise; it is something I am committed to achieving by the grace of God,” he added.
Expressing confidence in his chances ahead of the 2027 governorship election, Eshor said he was optimistic of victory, particularly with the support of youths and other residents seeking a change in the state’s leadership. He called on Deltans to join and support the AAC, assuring them that his administration would implement people-oriented policies and programmes aimed at improving living standards and transforming the state for the better.
