Blessed Seeds Int’l School, Effurun, in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, recently held its annual inter-house sports competition at the Holy Martyrs of Uganda Field, with pupils, parents, staff and guests celebrating sporting excellence and talent discovery. Speaking during the event, the Proprietress of the school, Ms Akpomuvie Onokpite, expressed gratitude to God for the successful outing. She commended the staff, management and learners for their contributions towards the success of the competition and urged them not to relent in their efforts at moving the institution to greater heights.
Also speaking, the Director of Studies, Mr. Oritsetseyinsan Addi-Best, said sports had become one of the highest-paying professions globally, adding that the school organised the bi-annual inter-house sports competition to nurture future sports stars in Delta State and Nigeria. According to him, proper training and encouragement could help the learners become future champions like Blessing Okagbare and Jay-Jay Okocha.
His words: “Apart from academics, one of the goals for which the school is established is to hunt for talents among learners through sports which is organized annually especially in the area of basketball, volleyball, football and others.” Mr. Addi-Best advised learners in the institution and across the globe to remain committed to both academics and sporting activities, stressing that success in life requires focus and balance. His words: “Learners should never make the mistakes of putting all their eggs in one basket, but cut across while learning.” He also urged parents to continue supporting their children educationally and morally to enable them achieve their full potential in life.
In her remarks, a parent and Matron to Green House, Mrs. Martha Okre, described the sporting event as exciting and commended the school management, staff and learners for ensuring its success. She encouraged the school to sustain the annual sporting programme in the interest of the learners. Mrs. Okre also advised students not to allow sporting activities distract them from their academic pursuits.
On her part, the Public Relations Officer of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA), Mrs. Nwagbuosa Christiana, described the 2026 edition of the inter-house sports competition as unique and thanked God for a successful event. She appreciated the school management, staff and learners for their efforts towards the success of the competition. While congratulating Blue House for emerging overall winners, she urged other houses to improve in future editions of the competition.
Also speaking, Mrs. Katherine Akparobe described the proprietress of the school as “a great blessing to humanity,” adding that the sporting event had projected the image of the school positively. Another parent, Mrs Chibuzor Henrietta, also spoke at the event.
Earlier in his opening address, the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Stanley Oronsaye, noted that creating a sporting atmosphere for learners was necessary for building future sports stars. According to him, sporting activities remain part of the vision of the school. His words: “The key is to promote holistic generosity, leadership, sporting to develop talents and general creativity in children to make the children useful to themselves and the society at large.”
He advised parents and guests to encourage children to participate in sports while growing up and instill sound moral values in them. His words: “We parents should encourage our children to engage in sporting activities and build in them sound moral character because parents are known by the way their children behave in the society.”
Mr. Oronsaye appreciated guests who attended the event despite their busy schedules.The competition featured athletes from various schools across the 25 local government areas of Delta State and included track and field events, football matches, scrabble and other games. he highlight of the event was the announcement of results, with Blue House emerging overall winners with 206 points. Green House came second with 201 points, while Yellow House placed third with 178 points. Red House finished fourth with 166 points.
