Nigeria Maritime University (NMU), Okerenkoko in Warri South West Local Government Area Delta State, has matriculated not less than one thousand and fifty-eight (1058) in its 2025/2026 academic session.
The matriculation held weekend at the ceremonial Pavilion, Kurutie, gave the breakdown of the newly admitted students as follows; Engineering, 543, Environment, 145 and transport, 370 respectively. In her address, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Flora Tobolayefa Oluwafemi charged the students to be of good behaviour as the institution would not condone any capable of tarnishing the reputation of the institution.
She warned that the university would not award certificates to any student found culpable in acts intended to damage the good name the institution had built over the years both in academic standards and worthy character of its students. According to her; “As established in our status, the key purpose of this matriculation is to acquaint you as students, fundamental principles, norms and culture of our institution. These core values are to project the image of this relatively nascent institution as a centre for learning, discipline and character moulding.”
“This institution is determined to uphold and ensure the students fruitful stay while on campus. It is my pleasure to congratulate you for being found suitable for admission. l would therefore assure you we are determined to uphold, protect and ensure the peaceful stay of all students”. Prof. Oluwafemi also said the institution frowned at unionism in all its forms and appealed to the students to uphold and respect the institution in this regard.

While stating that the institution has come of age, especially with the signing into law of the bill establishing the University by President Bola Tinubu, adding that with this, the institution had become more emboldened to achieve tremendous successes. The VC noted that;” Our University is growing and there is no doubt that in the next few years,the University would record phenomenal expansion in its programmes and infrastructure.”
“Among other things, the institution has improved on its power supply by providing solar power for the boys and girls hostel at Kurutie campus, classrooms and lecture halls are in Okerenkoko- all in attempts to provide better learning environments for students and staff”, She said, apart from good facilities for students to learn, safety of lives is guaranteed as always the case since the inception of the school and expressed gratitude to those who had contributed one way or the other to the growth of the institution making it what it is today.
Specifically, she expressed gratitude to SPDC and Chevron, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) among others, for their immeasurable contributions to the development of the institution. The highlight of the ceremony was the administration of matriculation oath on the newly admitted students.
