Oporoza, the historical and traditional Headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area Delta State, was on Tuesday, agog as Chairman, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, a.k.a Tompolo led Ijaw monarchs and traditional leaders, in an auspicious thanksgiving service at the sacred Gbaraun Egbesu Temple.
The event, which saw the presence of the illustrious sons and daughters of the Ijaw nation, was organized to honour the gods of Ijaw land, with particular reference to Egbesu deity. The event which also attracted monarchs from Delta, Bayelsa, Edo, and Ondo States, who had returned from a spiritual pilgrimage saw the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, HRM Oboro Gbaraun II, Aketekpe Agadagba, lead retinue of traditional rulers to converge at the Gbaraun Egbesu Temple for the exercise.

The one-day event which was dedicated to pray for the Ijaw Nation, Niger Delta in particular and Nigeria in general with focus on promotion of peace, unity and advocating for economic reforms was a moment of cultural renewal among the Ijaw people, as well as a reflection on their shared struggles and triumphs in the face of socio-economic and political challenges.
The Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited used the opportunity to address the gathering by acknowledging the critical role traditional institutions play in fostering harmony in the region. While praising the efforts of the monarchs and elders in maintenance of peace amid the complex socio-political dynamics of the region,Tompolo, reinterpreted his commitment to the welfare of the Ijaw people in particular and Nigerians at large. According to him, his involvement in the peace process would continue so long it is of benefits to the Niger Deltans. His words:“This land has suffered for far too long, and it is time for us to continue working together for the prosperity of our people, ensuring that the blessings of our ancestors are not in vain.”

On his part, The Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, HRM Oboro Gbaraun II, Aketekpe Agadagba expressed gratitude for peace to have returned to the region after years of conflict. His words: “Today is a day of thanksgiving, a day to celebrate our culture, our traditions, and most importantly, to give thanks for the blessings we have received.”
In separate speeches,the leaders urged both the federal and state governments to invest more in the region’s infrastructure and human capital and ensure youths of the Ijaw nation are empowered to lead the next generation towards a prosperous future. They also called for continued unity, co-operation, and development in the Niger Delta region.

The ceremony which was well attended by prominent personalities who include Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, the Registrar of Maritime University, Okerenkoko, serves as a symbol of the people’s deep-rooted spiritual connection to their heritage and their divine protection. It is on record that over the years, it has become a centre of cultural and religious activity, particularly during Amasiekumor festival, ceremonies that honour the Ijaw gods.
The climax of the thanksgiving ceremony included dances , music, and prayers, as elders invoke the blessings of the gods for peace, prosperity, and development in the Niger Delta in particular and Nigeria at large.
