Nigeria Union of Journalists Warri Correspondents’ Chapel has sued for peace in Warri and its environs- calling on Urhobo, Itsekiris, Ijaws and other residents of the area to shun all actions capable of plunging the commercial city into another form of crisis. In a communique issued at the end of the Union’s Congress held on Monday, 22nd day of September at High Chief Dr Government Ekpomupo a.k.a Tompolo Press Centre, 3 Eburu Street, Warri, Warri South Local Government Area Delta State, the Union emphasized the needs for peace to reign in Warri and its environs to sustain the tempo of growth and development in the area.
On the recent incessant kidnapping of people in the state especially children in Agbarho, in Ughelli North Local Government of the state and reoccurring cult clashes in the area, the Union called on the state government and the security agencies to tackle this ugly trend. Part of the statement reads: “Congress implored security agencies to take urgent and decisive action against the incessant kidnapping of children in Agbarho Kingdom, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. It also called on security operatives to tackle the recurring cult clashes in the area”.
On journalists who cover recent agitation of the three ethnic groups in Warri occasioned by Warri Federal Constituency INEC’s delineation, the Union tasked Journalists to be professional in their reportage just as it called on social media handlers to refrain from publishing posts or contents that could ignite conflict among the stakeholders in this regard.
While Congress commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s on the various projects executed across in the state to better the life of the people especially Warri, and its environs, it called Governor Oborevwori led government to urgently commence the reconstruction of the Udu Express Junction/ECN Road — a critical artery connecting several local government areas and immediate repairs on the FUPRE Junction section of the East-West Road. In the communique, the Union also urged Governor Oborevwori to expedite work on the ongoing roads construction and drain systems in Warri, Uvwie, and other parts of the state especially now that dry season sets in.
