Chevron Nigeria Limited, an oil and gas giant company in Nigeria has been honoured community’s partnership award. The ward which was given to the organization by Gbaramatu Voice International Media took place on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
Speaking at the award presentation which Gbaramatu Voice International Media termed as Niger Delta Night of Honour to mark its 10th Anniversary, the Chairman Editorial Board, Gbaramatu Voice International, Prof. Tosan Blessing Harriman extolled Chevron’s commitment and efforts in creating and sustaining collaboration with its community stakeholders for socio-economic development in the Niger Delta region. According to him, Chevron’s partnership with Gbaramatu Voice International has shown its commitment to the development of journalism just as he said, this partnership has led to sustainable change and enhanced the rich cultural diversity of the region.
His words: “We recognize that the success of the larger society invariably translates to success in our business; and we believe it is in our long-term interest to add value to society as we create value for our stakeholders. Chevron believes that affordable, reliable and ever-cleaner energy is essential to achieving a more prosperous and sustainable world”. According to Harriman, Chevron as company, has contributed immensely to sustainable development of communities in the Niger Delta through its legacy Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU), Host Community Development Trusts (HCDTs) under the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021, as well as Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND).
In his response while receiving the award on behalf of Chevron Nigeria Limited, Victor Anyaegbudike, Manager Communications, Chevron Nigeria Limited said the media have contributed to national development as their impactful roles in reporting oil and gas industry have been great adding, the media have provided effective perspective on complex industry operations. His words: “As members of the fourth estate of the realm, the media practitioners continue to play a vital role as agenda-setters and opinion molders in the society,”
According to him, Chevron Nigeria values its partnership with the media for the development of the society as it has sponsored many training programnmes for 400 Journalists in Advanced Writing and Reporting Skills in collaboration with Pan Atlantic University, Lagos. Chevron has also engaged in training of Journalists in partnership with Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Warri, Asaba, Lagos, and Abuja.
Present at the epoch making event were the representatives of the Vice President, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Chief of Army staff and honourable members of the National Assembly. Others were royal fathers, traditional rulers from Gbaramatu Kingdom and the Niger Delta region as well as captains of the oil and gas industry
