Nigeria Police Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Anietie Akpan Eyoh and An Associate Professor Maria Chinecherem Uzonwanne have launched two security books in Delta State. The two books which were co-authored by ACP Eyoh, Commandant MOPOL Training College, Osun-State and Uzonwanne, an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State, were launched in Wellington Hotel over the weekend in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State.
The books titled: “Police Operational Strategy and Tactical Leadership for Enhanced Professionalism and Economic Impact and Policing and the Peril of Duty: Understanding the Causes of Careless Death Among Police Officers”, are borne out of the present security challenges in the country. They are strategically focused, apt and timely, considering the rate of terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and insurgencies prevalent in the country.
The reviewer of the books, Prof. Uju Ezekiel said the books which are in two volumes are comprehensive for policing as a profession in the 21st century since they dwell on modern technology of security strategies. According to the reviewer, apart from police officers, the books are useful to law enforcement administrators, policy makers, researchers and security personnel. The books are good for anyone with vested interest in safety of police officers as well of those who work in law enforcement environment as they would be able to perform their duties well and be safe.
The books also discuss policing as a fundamental institution that maintains laws and order by protecting lives and property of that society. They also explain the duties of the police which include routine patrol, emergency response, special operations, intelligence gathering and information sharing, armed confrontations and response to traffic – related accidents. By the content of the books, one would be abreast with the fact that modern police force operates within the framework of constitution or legal systems of a country. They ensure that their actions align with the principles of justice, human rights and democratic governance. Law enforcement agents are expected to act impartially within the legal provisions.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Dr Michael Tidi Esq. said the books are veritable tools for information gathering on security issues and operational strategy as far as policing is concerned. According to Dr Tidi who is the immediate past Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State said policing and security is not only the duty of the security agencies but everyone. He charged all persons to always assist the police for necessary information to effectively carry out their duties. According to Tidi, the books would promote peace, security and economic well-being of Nigerians. His words:” The books will promote peace, security and economic well-being of our people”.
Dr Tidi called on Nigerians to have a copy of the books, to be acquainted with their contents to contribute their quota to the country to save life and property. His words: “Buy and use the contents t contribute to the process of protection of lives and property. Nigeria will be a better place for all if we are involved in the process of nation’s building by contributing our quota.”
