A Non-Governmental organization known as South South Change Project( SOSOCHAP)has identified lack of sustainable leadership in Nigeria as the bane of the country’s growth and development. The group made this known over the weekend at the inauguration of Delta State chapter of the body to pilot its affairs.
Speaking at the ceremony which place at Okpuga Hall in Orerokpe in Okpe Local Government Area of the state, the Chancellor of SOSOCHAP worldwide, Pastor Jossy Ekpe said, the corruption which holds sway in the country is largely due to bad leadership adding, good leadership cares for the welfare of the people.
According to him, the electorate keep on voting for the same set of leaders who abandon them after they have successfully gained entry to seat of power. He said, despite the abundant natural resources in the country, the people still wallow in abject poverty adding, that has affected the moral values in the society. His words:”Corruption you see is as a result of bad leadership. We keep on voting for those who abandon us at the end of the day. I expected the people to get what is commensurate with what we have but what we see, is far from reality”.
According to him, many people especially widows and children are suffering in the country adding, it is against this backdrop that the organization is formed: to help put smiles on the people’s faces. His words “Our target audience are those who have been abandoned, the widows, the neglected, children out of school, those who don’t have anybody in government to help them..”.
The Chancellor of the organization who said the mission of the organization is to promote unity, peace and development of the region through periodic convergence christened as “Citizen Square” has its core mandate built is on leadership, empowerment, development, governance and advocacy adding, it is as a result of poor advocacy hence many people are having challenges in the country. He therefore called on Deltans in particular and Nigerians in general to embrace positive change to add values to their lives saying, it is because moral values in the society are no more, hence Nigerians are suffering.

On his part, the Chairman of the newly inaugurated Delta State Governing Council of SOSOCHAP, Chief Victor Onogagamue said, one of the cardinal objectives of the organization is to change Nigeria’s value system and empower the society. Chief Onogagamue who was inaugurated along with nine others, said, the society has lost it moral values and therefore needs reorientation adding, the way people go about material wealth is appalling.
According to him, the nation lacks good leadership, a factor which has made the country to be poor. He said:”:”We are getting poorer on daily basis because of bad leadership. The organization is about taking people out of poverty..”Not left out is the State Director of the organization, Pastor Dafe Peter Omobosa. He charged the youths to be focused in order to be successful in life. According to him, achievement in life is gradual adding, so long they(youths) are focused, the sky is their limit in terms of progress.
Then of course, the Dean of Co-ordinators of the organization, Comrade Honesty Ekpemerong corroborated what the the two speakers have said. He therefore charged the youths to be proactive. The organization therefore advocated for good leadership to save the nation from its present state of quagmire.
The programme which was powered by South South Development and Leadership Initiative that saw free medical eye tests and free eye glasses by the organization’s medical team, climaxed with the official swearing-in of the executives.
