Against the background of media reports in online media platform which alleged thata certain Chevron Nigerià Limited employee (referred to as “General Manager of EGP”), was involved in “derailing” the employment of some graduates under the Vocational Training Program (“VTP”) and Operations Training Programme (“OTP”) as regular staff of CNL, Chevron Management has come up to say it is not true saying that such report is misleading and calculated attempts by unscrupulous elements to drag the esteem image of the organisation to the mud and therefore asked the public to disregard such information.
The Management of Chevron Nigeria Limited said, the office or position of a “General Manager of EGP” in the first place, does not exist in CNL just it said CNL has always adhered to a transparent and merit-based recruitment process to ensure equal opportunities for all qualified candidates and devoid of interference by any party.
In a press statement signed by the General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs of the organization, Olusoga Oduselu said as regards the referenceto VTP and OTP for some graduates several years ago, CNL affirms that the NNPCL/CNL’s sponsorship of the VTP and OTP was a corporate social responsibility initiative intended to train and help develop certain skills and capacity of selected beneficiaries from the local communities and other parts of Nigeria in the Nigerian oil and gas industry saying it was not a recruitment process into CNL .as the organization did not make any commitment in this regard to the beneficiaries.
Part of the statements reads:”Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), operator of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and CNL Joint Venture, is aware of a misleading publication by an online media platform which alleged that a certain CNL employee (referred to as “General Manager of EGP”), was involved in “derailing” the employment of some graduates under the Vocational Training Program (“VTP”) and Operations Training Program (“OTP”) as regular staff of CNL. This assertion is not only misleading but also unfounded in its entirety”.
According to the Management of the organisation, CNL is an equal opportunity employer, and its recruitment process is transparent and fair and provides equal opportunity for all qualified candidates to participate in its hiring process based on organisational requirements and business needs just it said the organisation encourages qualified candidates from communities neighbouring its operations to participate in its recruitment process.
Chevron Nigeria Limited therefore reiterates its commitment, within available resources and opportunities, to continue working with its community stakeholders and other partners to maintain peace and contribute positively to sustainable community and socio-economic development.
