Against the backdrop of the injury Valentine Adomi, a 24 –year- old Tailor sustained during women’s protest in Oteri Community in Ughelli in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state against Police’ extortion last month, she has cried for financial assistance to enable her be on her feet again to start her sewing.
Narrating her ordeal to newsmen when they visited her at home in the community, she said, she has been into the business of sewing clothes and dresses for a living before the unfortunate incident which saw one of her legs fracture on the day the women protested against the Police’ extortion in the community.
According to her, on the day of the said protest, she was on top of commercial motor cycle (bike) on her way to the market to purchase tailoring materials for her customers when the Police’ bullet hit her. According to her, at first, she never knew it was bullet, it was when she fell and made attempts to stand and run, she could not, it was then, she realized that it was bullet that hit her. She said, she was rushed to Ughelli Central Hospital where it was found that her bone was fractured and she was administered treatment.
she said: “When something hit me, I never knew it was bullet, it was when I fell and about to get up and run, I could not, it was then I realized that I had big injury”.
The Police’ bullet victim said that fateful day, after treatment, the Chairman of the Community paid the bill and since then, she has been the one catering for herself with the assistance of her sisters.
She said:” It was that first day that the Chairman of the Community paid the bill of the treatment, since then, I have been undergoing treatment through the help of my sisters and now, they don’t have any more. Before l was discharged home, I spent a week at the hospital. In the follow-up process, l go to the hospital twice a week for Doctor to dress the wound. As you can see (points), l have a cast on my leg. In two weeks or a month from now, Doctor said, I should come for an x- ray to check if the bones have joined, and if not, he will take me to the theatre. Now, l can’t walk and do my daily shores like sewing”
Valentine who was lying on mattress on the floor when the newsmen visited said, she will be very happy if she can get financial assistance to enable her stand on her feet and start her sewing business again as right now, she does have any body assisting her. She therefore appealed to the state Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborivworl, Senator Ovie Omo- Agege, and other well meaning Nigerians to come to her aid as she is suffering at present. Her words:” I need to go back to my sewing but right now, I can’t stand, I need financial help to enable me stand on my feet.”
