A non- governmental organization known as Human Rights Protection Congress
has sought the collaboration with stakeholders in the industry to totally eradicate crimes in the country.
The body made this known recently when the organization held one day security summit in collaboration with Uvwie Local Government Council and Nigeria Police force, Delta State Command.
In his paper presentation titled “Effective Security For Sustainable Development: the need For Stakeholders’ Collaboration, the Founding Executive Director, Value Rebirth and Empowerment initiative, and Director Of Studies, Value Rebirth Centre – LSD Leadership School, Delta State, Pastor(Comrade) Edewor Egedegbe said, security and development have traditionally formed from distinct discourse in international studies adding that, while development has been defined in the past as economic growth and well- being of the people, it has recently been expanded to include capabilities, opportunities and choice and at the international relations levels, security has been interpreted in variety of ways, which, according to him, include individuals,human and state security.
According to Pastor Egedegbe who is also the Chairman, CEO, RobbyDee Global Security Ltd, these policies domain concern different actors and focused on different threats both internal and external.
According to him, it is now clear that security and development are connected especially in least developed countries .He added that for over 20 years, development has been connected to security as lagging development can lead to grievances, conflict can be a threat to development.
He said::” The 2000 United Nations Millennium Declaration emphasize peace and security as prerequisites for poverty reduction and recent stock taking on UN Millennium Development Goals(MDGs) re-affirms that the country is mostly affected by conflicts, instability,and discipline has fallen further behind in poverty reduction”
He said, effective security is concerned with a proactive security approach, that is, the practice of taking measures to predict and prevent security breach, before it occurs.
According to him, both security and development intertwined as there is no security, no development adding that, the forms of human security for sustainable development include: economic, food, health, environment, personality, community leaders ,rulers of Kingdoms, among others to be involved If total security is to be achieved.
He said:” Security prevents crimes, improves customers’ service, create safe business environment, promotes a sense of order.”
On his part, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Wale Abass said, security is everybody’s business adding that for the society to have peace, every stakeholders: community leaders, youth leaders and others must collaborate eradicate the society of crimes. According to CP Wale Abass who was represented by DPO, Ekpan Division, Aliyu Shaba said since he involved the quarters in Ekpan and relevant stakeholders, the region has known peace.
He said:” l have told the quarters Chairmen that held responsible should there a breach of peace in the area. I can assure you that time, the rate of crimes have reduced in the area”.
He therefore thanked Human Rights Protection Congress for doing a good job just as he charged the body to continue with the good work as they have made their work of policing easier.
Others who spoke at the summit on need for. collaboration in this regard include: DCI ‘Chika W., Flying Officer I B Blnza, Peter Egere, President, Uvwie United, the Chairman, Uvwie Council, Hon. Ramson Onoyake who was represented by Hon. Peter O. among others.
