Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori said his administration would continue to support traditional rulers especially the Olu of Warri, His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III in the state because of the roles he has played in ensuring that there is peace in the state. Governor Oborevwori stated this on Monday at His Majesty’s 2nd coronation anniversary held in his Palace in Warri in Warri South Local Government Area of the state. He said, if the Olu’s Kingdom is peaceful, it would manifest in the state as that would enable him deliver the dividends of democracy to Deltans.
His words:” As a government, we shall continue to support our traditional rulers because we are aware of the role you play in a ensuring peaceful kingdom, if your kingdom is peaceful, our state will be peaceful and we will be able to deliver successfully its benefits to Deltans and humanity.”
According to the Governor Oborevwori who was represented by his Deputy, Monday Onyeme said, with the two years of the Monarch on the throne, the government has heard much about his success stories as he has been able to liaise with different countries of the world to attract investors to the state in particular and the country at large.
His words:” With two years of your reign, we have heard of success stories as you have been able to break new grounds of bilateral relationship with countries of the world . This is commendable as it is in line with our administration to making Delta State investment destination of the world through our M.O.R.E Agenda”.
He said it was due to his(His Majesty Ogiame’s) hard work that he was conferred with the CFR honour and therefore urged all sons and daughter of the kingdom to support him to enable him succeed just as he prayed for his good health, and long life on the throne.
In his address, the Olu of Warri, His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III CFR said all sons and daughters of the Iwere land must unite to make not only the kingdom great but the entire state and the country at large. According to him, his two years on the throne has brought great achievements to the kingdom adding, it was possible through the cooperation of the Council of Chiefs led by the Ologbotsere of the kingdom, Chief (Engr.) Oma Eyewuoma and the entire people.
He said:” Two years is a short time in our life and life of Iwere land. As a King appointed by God, two years on throne has brought us together… it is easier to destroy but we must build Iwere land, our children and Nigeria..”
According to him, the Itsekiris are unique people and pioneers saying, they have to be innovative being minority as a tribe otherwise , they would not be able take their place in scheme of things. He said everybody cannot become a Chief in the kingdom just as he said hard work would be rewarded. He said, education is a key to success as he would like to celebrate the youths and all those who have excelled in one way or the other in the kingdom. He therefore sued for more cooperation and understanding for the kingdom to move forward just as he has thanked them for their cooperation and support over the years.
The programme which was attended by dignitaries from all walks of life climaxed with dances, songs, and the paying of homage by sons and daughter of the kingdom both in Nigeria and abroad.
