The Delta State Police Command has paid condolence visit to the family of late Onyeka Ibe who was shot dead by Inspector Ebri Ubi on the 5th Aprl, 2023. The visit which was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operation, DCP Johnson Adenola who represented the Commissioner of Police AIG Ari Muhammed Ali FCIA, PSC+ and a team of Senior Police Officers, including the Area Commander, Asaba, the Police Public Relations Officers to the deceased’s family compound to commiserate with the family took place on the 17th April 2023.
In a press statement signed by the Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe said the Command expressed heartfelt sympathy for the deceased’s family.
According to the statement, the Command expressed sympathy with the family for the death of their son saying, the Command shared in the pain and agony of the family members. The statement added that late Onyeka was well known to many officers of the Command and a good friend of the Police adding, his death was highly regrettable. The statement said, there was no justification for the action of Inspr. Ubi hence the Command promptly arrested him to answer for his misdeed.
Part of the statement reads:“… the DCP Operation expressed the sympathy of the Command with the family over the death of their son, noting that every officer in the Command shares in the pain and agony of the family members. He noted that the late Onyeka was well known to many officers of the Command and a good friend of the Police whose death was highly regrettable… that there was no known justification for the action of Inspr. Ubi, hence, the Command promptly arrested him to answer for his misdeed”.
According to the statement, the Police Boss informed the family of the deceased that AIG Ari Mohammed Ali is unwavering that justice will be served as the internal disciplinary process which has already commenced saying, will be concluded speedily as a prelude to the arraignment of the offending officer without delay.
The statement said, the AIG reiterated that the Force as an institution does not and will never cover neither defend any of its personnel who acted outside their rules of engagement or get themselves involved in any act of criminality.
In their response, the family appreciated the concern that the Command has shown so far saying that all they required from the Command’s leadership is justice for their son.
