Two suspected armed robbers reportedly died at different occasions in the hospital in the bid to revive them. One of them, a leader of a gang called Bobo Ononibe “m” aged 26 years who lived in Ufuoma Street, Unukpo-Orogun Community in Ughelli North LGA while the other, the identity unknown. In press statement signed by the Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe said in the case of Bobo Ononibe, on the 13th January 2023 about 1645 hrs, acting on tip off that some suspected armed robbers that have been on the command’s wanted list over their involvement in foiled robbery operation on the 23rd June 2022, in Orogun community, were seen gather within the Unukpo – Orogun palm tree plantation.
The statement added that the DPO in Orogun Division in a proactive step to forestall another of their attack, quickly mobilized and led police operatives to the venue. The statement added that as soon the hoodlums saw the police approaching the scene, they opened fire on the police of which, the police responded. The statement added that, when the hoodlums saw the fire power of the police, they took to their heels, however, the gang leader, Bobo Ononibe “m” aged 26years had injuries due to the gun shot. He was however rushed to the hospital but he could not make it and he died. The statement said items recovered from him include: One locally made cut-to-size gun, three (03) cartridges, one machete, one dagger, native charms, adding, efforts are on to arrest the fleeing members of the gang.

The hoodlums took to flight due to the superior police fire power of the Police but during the ensuing gun duel, the gang leader, one Bobo Ononibe ‘m’ aged 26yrs of Ufuoma Street, Unukpo – Orogun community, Ughelli North LGA, sustained serious gunshot injuries, he was taken to the hospital where he was later certified dead by the doctor on duty. One locally made cut-to-size gun, three (03) cartridges, one machete, one dagger, native charms among others were recovered. Efforts are on to arrest the fleeing members of the gang”.
the statement said in the related development, on 16th January 2023, at about 1125 hours, the DPO Agbarho Division got a distress call that some members of Ewherhe Community Agbarho in Ughelli Norh LGA have caught a suspected armed robber along Ewherhe/Ovu Road with one locally made –cut- to- size-double-barrel gun and one cartridge and other suspected stolen items which include one iphone, 11 pro-max, one hp laptop, one mp3 player and a cash sum of eight thousand two hundred and twenty naira (N8220). The statement added that the suspect was being beaten by the mob. The statement said, against this backdrop, the DPO detailed patrol team and went to the area but their arrival, the mob have escaped leaving the suspect badly beaten. The statement added when the suspect was taken to the hospital, he could not make it as he died while receiving treatment.
Part of the statement reads:”…The DPO detailed patrol teams to proceed, on getting to the scene; the mob escaped leaving the suspect badly beaten. Although the suspect was rescued and taken to the hospital, he died while receiving treatment. Investigation is ongoing”.
Commenting on the above developments, the Commissioner of Police Delta State Command, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, FCIA, psc+, applauded the gallantry of the operatives of Orogun Division. He however condemned the jungle justice on suspected armed robbers caught and advised members of the public to desist from it adding, it is not a good thing to do, rather, they should hand-over suspects to the Police for diligent investigation and possible prosecution to act as deterrent to others.
