A vibrant community leader and stalwart of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Hon. Oghenekevwe Aghomi has been conferred with the Amakashe I (Angel) title of Idjerhe Kingdom by HRM. Monday Obukohwo Whiskey, Udurhie I, Ovie of Idjerhe kingdom.
Speaking to newsmen at the colourful ceremony which took place at the palace of Idjerhe Monarch, Idjerhe Town, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, the newly conferred Amakashe I of Idjerhe Kingdom, Chief Oghenekevwe Aghomi said he was not expecting the honour, adding that he was surprised when HRM Whiskey sent for him to be honoured with this prestigious title.
Chief Aghomi said he was happy with the traditional chieftaincy title of ‘Amakashe’ meaning Angel, peace maker, messenger of peace, love and interventionist as well as divine messenger of progress to the people and community
.
He expressed gratitude to God for the honour bestowed on him by HRM Whiskey, Udurhie I, stressing that the title was given to him on merit following his stewardship to Idjerhe Kingdom as well as promotion of peace and community development within his capacity.
According to him “In Idjerhe (Jesse) Kingdom, you cannot buy chieftaincy title if you do not merit it or deserve it, you won’t get it. I have been contributing my quota to my community within my capacity. My father, Chief Matthew Aghomi has contributed to the peace and development of Idjerhe Kingdom which I will continue to emulate. His positive impact was felt in Idjerhe kingdom and beyond before he departed to meet his creator. I pray God to grant me wisdom and more resources to continue to contribute to the development of Idjerhe kingdom and Nigeria”.
Chief Aghomi clearly stated that the title would spur him to contribute more to the development, peace and progress of Idjerhe Kingdom and Urhobo land, stressing that he would use his political connection to attract developmental projects to the area.
He promised to liaise with the government at all levels to locate more projects and provide more infrastructures and encourage others to establish cottage industries in Idjerhe kingdom. He commended the Idjerhe Monarch, HRM Whiskey Udurhie I and the Idjerhe traditional council of chiefs for considering him worthy of the title.
